Frequently Asked Questions
For the woman who’s hearing the call… but still has questions.
-
Read everything on this page and notice what happens.
Not whether you can logically justify it. Not whether you think you “need” a retreat.
Just whether something about it keeps catching your attention.
You may be drawn to Persephone or the Mysteries or to ritual or to spending a few days in the woods with other women.
Or simply to the idea of stepping away from ordinary life and doing something you have never done before.
You don't need a dramatic reason to come. Sometimes being curious about the experience is reason enough.
-
Because there comes a point when the stories we were given about womanhood stop being enough.
We’ve lived some life. We know ourselves differently. We may care less about being who everyone expected us to be and more about what actually feels true.
Our bodies change. Our priorities change. Our relationship with time changes.
And yet there are very few places in our culture where we actually stop and honor that.
The old traditions understood the importance of initiation, of marking the moment when we crossed from one way of being into another.
I think there is something worth remembering there.
That is part of why I created Mysterium.
The astrology around “why now” is also extremely potent and something we will experience and talk about throughout the weekend.
-
The Threshold Mysterium is an intimate retreat inspired by the ancient Eleusinian Mysteries and the story of Demeter and Persephone.
We’ll spend the weekend moving through the ancient rhythm of purification, descent, encounter, revelation and return through ritual, story, embodied experiences, reflection, time together and a few things I’m intentionally keeping a mystery.
This isn’t a historical reenactment of the Eleusinian Mysteries. It’s an opportunity to explore myth in an embodied way through ritual and reflection
-
Because it’s a Mysterium.
Part of the experience is allowing yourself not to know exactly what is coming next.
We spend so much of our lives planning, managing, anticipating and trying to stay three steps ahead. For these few days, I want you to have the rare experience of simply being able to show up and be guided through what comes next.
You’ll receive all the practical information you need beforehand. The rest can unfold when you’re here.
-
It’s for the woman who feels ready for something deeper.
Maybe you’ve reached a point in life where you know yourself differently than you did ten or twenty years ago. Your relationship with your body, your time, your desires, your relationships, or simply yourself may be changing.
Or maybe life is actually quite good, but you’re craving an experience that takes you out of the everyday and gives you room to listen, experience, connect and remember parts of yourself that don’t always get much attention.
You don’t need to be in crisis or standing at some enormous crossroads to come.
YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 30 YEARS OF AGE TO ATTEND
-
Not at all.
A threshold doesn’t always arrive with a dramatic ending or beginning. Sometimes we simply realize that we’ve entered a different season of our lives.
You may arrive knowing exactly what this weekend represents for you. You may not know at all.
Both are welcome.
-
I have been fascinated by the Eleusinian Mysteries for many years.
For nearly two thousand years, initiates traveled to Eleusis to participate in sacred rites connected to Demeter and Persephone. What happened within the Mysteries was kept secret, which is part of what continues to make them so compelling.
We cannot and should not pretend to recreate those ancient rites.
But we can look at the pattern they left behind: descent and return, grief and renewal, mystery, initiation, and the understanding that some things have to be experienced rather than simply understood intellectually.
That pattern is the foundation of our weekend.
-
Not at all! You don’t need to know Greek mythology, have studied the Mysteries or even know the full story of Persephone.
I’ll give you the context you need as we go.
In some ways, knowing less may actually allow you to experience the story more personally rather than trying to get it “right.”
-
There will be storytelling, ritual, embodied and somatic experiences, reflection, beautiful meals, time outdoors, conversation, quiet, and opportunities to connect with the other women in the group.
There will also be elements that I’m deliberately not revealing ahead of time.
I want you to know enough to feel safe saying yes, without knowing so much that you arrive already anticipating every moment.
If you’ve ever attended one of my events, you know it will be beautiful, magical, and intentionally held.
-
No. We are working with themes of descent, death and rebirth, so there will absolutely be depth. But depth does not have to mean three days of heaviness.
There will also be beautiful food, laughter, beauty, creativity, connection, time outside and the simple pleasure of being together.
The ancient story contains both the Underworld and the return of life. I want our weekend to hold both, too.
The intention is not at all to process deep trauma and intentionally trigger past wounds.
-

This is an intimate retreat and space is intentionally very limited so that our circle can stay sacred, connected, and deeply held.
I want us to be able to gather around one table, know one another’s names and create the kind of intimacy that simply isn’t possible with a very large group.
For these reasons, this retreat will be limited to a handful of women.
-
Then you are exactly where you’re meant to be.
Every woman who has ever stood at a threshold has felt that trembling. If there’s anything I can answer to help ease your nerves, drop me a line.
-
Not at all! Many women come solo and that’s part of the magic. This circle is intentionally created to be welcoming, intimate, and soul-nourishing. You’ll be supported from the moment you say yes, and likely leave with lifelong sisters.
I’ll never forget the first retreat I attended alone. I was so worried and over a decade later, some of the women from that retreat are still dear friends today.
-
No prior experience is required. You only need a willingness to be open. Everything is guided with care, and you’ll be gently led through each practice. You will never have to do anything you are unwilling to do. Whether you’re deeply on a spiritual path or just beginning to explore, you’ll be held every step of the way.
-
This retreat is a deeply curated and intimate experience. Due to the nature of the retreat and the commitments made on your behalf, all payments are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Life is full of mystery, which is why we strongly encourage you to purchase travel insurance that covers cancellations, illness, delays, and any unexpected changes. This protects your investment and allows us to hold the container with clarity and trust.
By signing up, you’re saying yes to this sacred journey, and to caring for both yourself and the group through thoughtful preparation.
-
You’ll receive a complete packing list before the retreat.
Mostly, bring comfortable clothes, layers for being outside, a journal, anything you personally need to feel at home for the weekend, and clothes you feel good wearing.
If something special is needed for one of our rituals, I’ll let you know or it will already be waiting for you.
-
Absolutely! There are many hotels and Airbnb’s in the area to choose from to fit your preferences and budget. I’m happy to provide suggestions as needed.
-
Yes. There will be a rhythm to the weekend and spaciousness is part of it.
You won’t be scheduled every minute of every day. There will be opportunities to rest, journal, take a walk, have a cup of tea, soak in the hot tub, talk with someone or simply be quiet.
